    Mining operations demand that workers maintain focus on safety at all times. Accordingly, the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) requires a refresher training course every year for miners working in non-coal surface mining sites to reinforce proper methods for workplace safety. The MSHA Part 46 2019 Refresher (8-Hour) Course offered by ClickSafety gives a comprehensive view of key topics to help all workers in surface mining sites promote a safe and healthy environment on the job.

    NOTICE: This training is applicable only to MSHA Title 30, Part 46 regulations for non-coal surface mining.   This training will not satisfy Part 48 training requirements.  If you are uncertain whether you are required to have Part 46 or Part 48 training, please contact the mine(s) you are planning to enter.

    Course Objectives

    During the course, students will cover essential topics in surface mine safety standards, including:

    • A review of mining work environments
    • Best practices for recognizing, avoiding and reporting common hazards, including electricity, hazardous energies, confined spaces and conveyors
    • Fire warning signals and firefighting best practices
    • Health and safety aspects of mining tasks
    • Essential safety topics, including first aid, emergency medical procedures and the use of PPE (respirators and self-rescue devices)
    • The dangers of silica dust and blood-borne pathogens
    • Emergency situations, including escape and evacuation
    • MSHA miners' rights and responsibilities
    • Supervisor and representative MSHA roles and responsibilities
    • Machine guarding

    Upon completion, you will fully understand what is required from you, your employer and all other parties to maintain a safe work environment.

    Course Audience

    This 8-hour online course is appropriate for surface miners who have completed new miner or newly employed, experienced miner training within the last 12 months, including:

    • Miners
    • Supervisors
    • Managers
    • Mine operators
    • Miners' representatives
    • Subcontractors

    Upon completion, you will have met the MSHA Title 30, Part 46 training regulations for non-coal surface mining, including shell dredging and sand, gravel, surface stone, surface clay, colloidal phosphate and surface limestone mining, for 12 months. To ensure compliance, mine operators and contractors must update their MSHA Part 46 Training Plan to include ClickSafety in the annual refresher section before assigning this course.

    The course should NOT be taken by:

    • Anyone considered a new miner by MSHA standards, including individuals working in a mine for the first time and experienced miners working in a new type of mine for the first time
    • Individuals seeking to fulfill MSHA Title 30, Part 48 training requirements

    Course Features and Benefits

    As required by MSHA, the MSHA Part 46 2019 Refresher (8-Hour) Course will consist of eight hours of training and adheres to MSHA Part 46 standards. Course participants will receive:

    • 0.8 continuing education units from an accredited IACET provider
    • Voice-narrated content
    • Updated materials that reflect the most recently available mine incidents resulting in fatalities, serious injury and citation
    • A certificate of completion

    Participants must pass each knowledge checkpoint with at least a score of 70% and fill out the course evaluation form to receive a certificate.
