Toolbox Talks promote worksite safety and can help prevent incidents, injuries, and illnesses. These short, on-the-job meetings usually take place at the start of each work day and last about 10 to 15 minutes. Toolbox Talks focus on communicating safe worksite practices, hazards, safe and unsafe behaviors, regulations, and requirements. In New York City, Local Law 196 of 2017 (LL196) requires that workers and supervisors receive safety training if their site’s designate a construction supervisor, site safety coordinator, or site safety manager. Once fully phased-in, this law mandates that workers at certain worksites receive 40 hours of safety training and supervisors receive 62 hours of safety training.

NYC SST-304 2-Hour Tool Box Talks is an awareness-level online course designed to help you as you work towards obtaining a Site Safety Training Card (SST). It provides the knowledge, skills, tools, example steps, and resources necessary for successful Toolbox Talks.

NOTICE: This course uses voice authentication. VA courses were developed in conjunction with the NYC Department of Buildings (NYC DOB) to address LL196 online course proctoring requirements. These voice-authenticated courses represent a best practice to ensure the identity of the student by prompting users to verify their voice at random intervals throughout the course. Users must have access to a mobile phone or landline while taking the course to successfully meet this requirement. NYC DOB Provider ID Number: 4T75

Upon completing all necessary training courses to satisfy NYC SST requirements, you will be eligible to receive an SST card. Please note that the SST card is not automatically included and must be obtained separately. To acquire your SST card, you will need to purchase the Site Safety Training (SST) Card course. This course will guide you through the complex process of applying for an SST card, ensuring you meet the requirements of New York City Local Law 196 of 2017 (LL 196).
